Well, here we are again, friends. The kids are officially heading back to school, and I have all the feelings.
Summer is great and all—late nights, ice cream for dinner, spontaneous days—but let’s be real for a second: routine and structure are kind of magical. As a busy mom, foster mom, and business owner, I thrive on schedules (even when I don’t always follow them perfectly). Summer throws those schedules right out the window, and by August I’m basically running on iced coffee and sheer survival mode.
So yes, I’ll admit it—I am ready for school mornings, regular bedtimes, and a little bit of actual me time during the day. Cue the angels singing.
Of course, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. The two great banes of back-to-school life? Grouchy, not-morning-people kids… and making lunches. Can we just collectively agree that lunch-making is the actual worst? I swear I pack them with love on Day 1, and by Day 12 it’s “just take the granola bar and don’t ask me about vegetables.”
But you know what? Even with the grumpy mornings and the sandwich assembly line, I wouldn’t trade it. Because at the end of the day, sending the kids off with backpacks full of supplies (and hopefully shoes that match) means we all get a little structure back. And for this mama, that balance is priceless.
So here’s to earlier bedtimes, full coffee mugs, thriving businesses, and a few precious quiet hours in the day. We’ve earned it.
